Darjeeling is a popular hill station and tourist destination in the state of West Bengal. The city is well-known for its access route, the Darjeeling tea, Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and the historical role of the city during summer season is admired not only by the people of West Bengal, but also by the people belonging to other states as well.

The city of Darjeeling is acting as the headquarters of the Darjeeling District, which includes other subdivisions like Siliguri subdivision, Kurseong subdivision, Kalimpong subdivision and Darjeeling Sadar Subdivision. The city of Darjeeling and the whole district of Darjeeling is acting as the home for a number of educational institutions and the list of government colleges functioning here is given below:

Medical College:

North Bengal Medical College came into existence in the year 1968 and the college is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. Medical Council of India has approved this college to offer MBBS course with an intake capacity of 100 students per year. The college is also offering PG courses like MS in orthopedics and surgery and MD in anatomy, general medicine, pathology, pediatrics, physiology, obstetrics & gynecology, community medicine and anesthesia.

Admission of students to the MBBS course offered by the college is done based on the marks secured by the students in the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination for 85% of seats and for remaining 15% of seats, marks secured by students in All India Level CBSE Pre-medical Test score is taken into consideration. For PG courses, candidates must have a valid score in All-India PG entrance examination or state level PG entrance exam score.

Dental College:

North Bengal Dental College came into existence in the year 1991 and it is approved by the Dental Council of India to admit 20 to 50 students for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery course offered by the college. This college is located in the same campus of the North Bengal Medical College.

Arts & Science College:

Darjeeling Government College is a co-education institution that came into existence in the year 1948. The college is offering UG courses in Science, commerce and liberal arts faculties and PG courses like MA in Nepali and English and M. Sc in Zoology and Botany.

These colleges offer the best quality education not only to the students belonging to West Bengal, but also for the students belonging to other states and other countries as well.
