Cricket Test Match India vs Australia

Cricket Test Match India vs Australia 2nd day

The first day of the second test played between India and Australia went in the favour of the visitors as they toiled India bowlers who could only manage 5 wickets in 86 overs and conceded 285 runs. Before the match state was stumps, Australian batsmen Marcus North and Tim Paine were cruising briskly towards setting a huge target.

Earlier today, Australian captain Ricky Ponting decided to bat first despite of overcast conditions in the Chinnaswamy stadium after winning the toss. His decision went in his favour as the Australian openers did not let him down. Shane Watson (57) from 88 balls and Simon Katich (43) from 95 balls shared 99 runs for the first wicket.
It was in the 27th over that Harbhajan Singh brought the first break for the Indian team and got Simon Katich out. Pragyan Ojha helped India get the second wicket after he trapped Shane Watson and got him caught behind.

With this fall of Watson, Australia came on back foot as the scoreboard read 113 for 2.Skipper Ponting and Michael Clarke tried to take the control. However, Clarke became the second victim of Harbhajan Singh.

However, Ricky Ponting played a sensible inning and his stand of 77 runs with 12 boundaries in his kitty steadied the Australian inning. However, guest bowler Suresh Raina helped India hold its breath after he got Ponting out in the 76th over of the match.

Michael Hussey too played a sensible inning of 34 runs from 45 balls before he got caught on the bowling of Zaheer. Before the end of the day’s play, Marcus North (43) and Tim Paine (8) were unbeaten on crease.
